kill bill vol.1
"Kill Bill: Vol. 1" is rated R (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). It has shootings, stabbings, beatings, beheadings, disembowelings, amputations, mutilations, eye-gougings, slicings, choppings, bitings and a spanking. Also some naughty words.
tarantino's latest, kill bill - volume 1 hits theaters today. looks like it might be tarantino at his most self-indulgent yet, but you know it won't disappoint. read the review, and go see it.

Snippets from his brief review (in the NYer): "We know that the non-stop violence is not meant to be real....Yet Tarantino is working in a photographic medium, and the real-world associations are not so easy to shrug off....The movie is what's formally known as decadence and commonly known as crap. Saying that it's an homage to long-established genres in Hong Kong doesn't reduce its pop-nihilistic stupidity."
Still, once you've seen it, I'd like to know what you thought. :)
Posted by: jess at November 5, 2003 11:26 AMhmm... yeah, i read denby's review too, but i tend to find his taste a bit narrower than mine. not much, but a little, so i held out hope. but, i have to say i was quite disappointed. its a bit of a game where you have to go in realizing that you're "playing" with a different set of rules than usual. in this case, the violence is not attempting to reflect reality, but instead is actually the medium, the paint on the canvas in a sense. still, its a stretch, and knowing that tarantino is capable of so much more, i found it seriously lacking.
