another photo from john totten's birthday party last saturday. a couple of hours into the evening mr. totten, john and the twins' father, showed up for an impromptu jam session with his boys. as it turns out he's quite a musician himself, jamming out on the bass while david (foreground) played guitar with john on the drums. their covers of hendrix, the beatles, and others eventually turned into one long 70s-style rock-medley, with the occasional drum-and-bass rap from totten father and son.

this morning i was reading a film review of the new tony scott film, man on fire, in the NY times and came across this pretty comical paragraph that i thought i'd share:
"Kill them all," Pita's mother hisses when she learns of Creasy's plan. In the same scene we learn that she has been reading his Bible, a book he consults and occasionally quotes, though it may be a different version than the one I'm familiar with. I've combed through both testaments, and I can't find the verse that seems to be Creasy's favorite — the one that says: if your enemy smites you on one cheek, rig a tube full of plastic explosive to his body, tie him to the hood of a car and light the fuse.
heheh. can't find that one myself either...
i know its not friday, but here's a musical recommendation nonetheless. i've been hearing little things here and there about this band ratatat for a couple months (i think pitchfork plugged them a while back?), and now they're the album of the week over at the morning news. check out the mini-review and the free mp3. just listening to it makes you feel kinda cool...
ari now has a blog... i think. and rumor has it she and tim are coming up for the weekend?
you shouldn't let people in on a rough draft!!! The blog is actually for my fam, hence the name Poston Prattle. It is so that we can keep up with each other and read/dialogue about scripture, seeing that my family does not have the same view of G-d as tim and i do. Anyways, right now it's just full of questions about how in the world to computer program. We'll see you this weekend andy?
Posted by: ari at April 21, 2004 10:58 AMhmm... well, blogs can't exactly be private. just being on the internet is going to make it inherently accessible by anyone. but all the more reason for us all to dialogue about this mysterious "G-d" person you keep referring to...
Gid. Mike Gid. Cousin of mine.
Posted by: mesh at April 21, 2004 12:16 PMI'm starting a blog where we have a dialogue about scripture and G n' R. That's right. This weeks topic- How Slash is the greatest guitarist in the world and an inspiration to frizzy haired musicians everywhere.
Posted by: john totten at April 21, 2004 12:23 PM...Followed by a discussion of the eschatological implications of the lyrics to "Paradise City."
"Take me down to the Paradise City
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Won't you please take me home."
I mean, how can you NOT see the two-age construction in that?
Posted by: mesh at April 21, 2004 01:10 PMNext week- total depravity in "Welcome to the Jungle" followed by the principles of adoption in "Sweet Child of Mine"
Posted by: john totten at April 21, 2004 01:23 PMAnd let us not forget the interplay between election and free will in "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." A doctrine made all the more complex because it was cribbed from Bob Dylan.
