lunch

another late post today, and another one about food. any of you current or ex- denizens of st.elmo will recognize the drive-thru at armondo's. evidently its the "burger that st.elmo waited for!" you know what else st.elmo is waiting for is another neighborhood pub like the safari pub. now that our offices are practically across the street from the old pub i'm continually reminded of its absence. maybe a few of us locals need to pool our funds and open it back up... take turns tending bar and cooking south african grub...

...

friday mp3-of-the-week: palmcorder yanja by the mountain goats - i still don't own any albums by these guys, but they're quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. they seem to fall into that same category as the decemberists and neutral milk hotel, among others. this album has been out for a while, but i was reminded of it by mesh today, so i thought i'd share.

oh, and here's an interview with david sedaris from the books and culture website.

the mountain goats are great. or, "is" great, since it's just one guy who does all the music, song-writing, singing, etc.

do you remember we made you listen to that mountain goats song where he yells "mont-GOMERY!" in the chorus?

we saw him in brooklyn a little while ago, playing at the opening of a new record shop in hipster-ville. i mean williamsburg.

we ran into a bunch of different people at the show, the mountain goats scene is small and we seem to know most of their fans.. :)

ps: have you heard sufjan stevens yet? he's got a new CD out every time i turn around. he's part of the mountain goats fan club, but he has his own burdgeoning cult following, made up mostly of church girls and alienated kids from michigan. very good stuff, tho.

a-

we also saw the mountain goats a few weeks back at a show put on by believer mag at the empty bottle in chicago. he is one of the most-dynamic with-just-his-head-movements-onstage-with-just-a-guitar-performers i've seen. his neck muscles alone . . . grief.

so, are armando's burgers any good?

Sufjan=goodness. Purportedly he is making an album for each of the 50 states. If they turn out to be half as good as his opus to Michigan, then we're looking at another 49 incredible albums.

Armando's burgers? Oh yeah they're good. The thing is, I just usually forget they're there...the sign is so low key, and it's kind of just part of the landscape.
