i haven't been shooting much since the recent wedding weekend. shooting 25 rolls of film in 3 days can make you not want to pick up the camera for a little while. at the same time though, i have to admit that after weekends like that where i spend so much time taking pictures i really wonder if i shouldn't take a shot at making it as a photographer.
anyhow - that said, this photo is an old one. probably from sometime in april i'd guess - an afternoon at la altena with ben, anna, paul, and the martins.
...
i think this is the next album i'd like to buy. its funny to me how hot will oldham is recently. granted, hot within a very small subculture, but two tribute albums in one year? (granted, one of them done by himself.) but this one looks and sounds pretty good. now i just have to find it somewhere.
freeipods.com update: so, i still don't know whether this thing is a scam or not. it appears that some people are actually receiving iPods, so i wanted to push my referral link again. quite a few people signed up under me before, but hardly any of them completed offers. this may have been because the eBay offer was only working occasionally. i had to go in and do the real rhapsody offer, but its pretty quick and easy and only costs 99 cents. so, if any of you out there want to help a fella out, i only need three more referrals.
UPDATE: looks like the freeipods.com thing is pretty legit, at least that's what wired says. so come on, jump on board!
Ah, those two are good kids.

Posted by: Paul B at August 18, 2004 09:21 PMWill Oldham is tremendolicious... he's ruined me for almost everybody else. I wish I were him very seriously sometimes. I like a lot of stuff from the Palace days, but I See A Darkness is too good. His Master And Everything isn't as good, but the guy is a total phenom.
[brag aside: He used to hang around Baltimore alot. I shared a smoke with him on a couple occassions, but I don't see him around anymore. He must've moved away.]
The sheer fact that you post a photo a day is inspiring. I recently received a degree in photography and I haven't picked up my camera to do any serious shooting in months. After taking so many photo classes and working at a portrait studio I got burnt. Now that I've seen your blog, and a few others, it makes me want to get back to business. I just can't seem to get started.
All that to say, your photos are great.
thanks rachel - i hope you can get started soon. i just started taking my camera everywhere and the inspiration seemed to follow.
paul - the issue of being in business for oneself really is the question in my mind. i find that i'm often more externally than internally motivated when it comes to work and that might not go well with running one's own business. its actually more tempting to find work as a photographer under someone who's been doing it for some time, but those jobs seem few and far between (if not non-existent in this part of the country). the other option would be photojournalism which really doesn't appeal to me. my photojournalist friends seem so abused by their papers that i've been quite turned off to the profession.
Posted by: andy at August 20, 2004 12:57 PMMy personal opinion, I advised against working for someone else in the photography business. I did so for about 9 months. I enjoyed the first two, but quickly realized that my style didn't match up with their style. It makes work much mroe difficult when you're trying to please the customer, the boss, and most of all, yourself. It is also especially diffcult going into a family owned and opporated business. Every customer that comes in expects to have service from one of the family members...not 'that other girl'.
But those are just my thoughts.
umm ... gee andy. thanks for the flattering picture of me. i do like the yellow behind the blue on anna though. let's just say i was caught in a sneeze.
