Topo Chico soda

i've found the best new place in town for lunch. its a little trailer over on East Main Street just past La Altena in a parking lot on the left. inside are a couple mexicans who only appear to speak enough english to take orders and money. the menu is entirely in spanish, as are the soda bottles and the burritos and tacos are about as mexican as you can get in chattanooga. a filling lunch with a small radish-and-cucumber salad comes to $3.75. tough to beat.

...

that's all for today...

Andy: the little cantiene (sp?) you have found is actually known to be really good. The firemen that work around the corner go there often and have told me to try it out one day. Let me know how the food was.

El lugar se llama "Taco Rico", y es delicioso. ¡El triciclo va a menudo!

Kiko sabe a todos los bomberos bien.

Mis pantalones estan en fuego con el amor de los burritos del lugar de que estas hablando.

are you SURE they're mexicans? I thought they were guatemalens? a pet peeve of mine is folks (especially nice, educated folks such as yourself) calling all hispanics mexicans.

Posted by: bobw at September 9, 2004 02:17 PM

Hmm... that's a very good question Bob, and something that tends to irk me too - people mixing up Japanese and Chinese and the like. I think I assumed (bad idea) that they were Mexican because of the close location to La Altena, as if that were a "Mexican" part of town, but they very well could be Guatemalan.

Posted by: andy at September 9, 2004 02:27 PM

I would wager that they are, in fact, Guatemalans.

Posted by: Bill Colrus at September 9, 2004 02:31 PM

yeah I'm not exactly sure who they are, but there are many more guatemalens in this town than mexicans, at least last time I heard.

Posted by: bobw at September 9, 2004 02:36 PM

Maybe they're Mormons.

It's a pet peeve of mine when educated people, people with excellent education indeed, go around mistaking Mormons for Guatamalans.

Aaron Mesh you are a funny boy!

Posted by: Katie at September 9, 2004 03:04 PM

A pet peeve of mine is complete morons talking about absolutley nothing.

BTW they are probably Penacostals, anybody could tell that. What a bunch of Maroons

Posted by: Dan at September 9, 2004 03:47 PM

somos todos los guatamalans y pentacostal y a veces los mormones y nosotros hágale un buen almuerzo a veces. una cosa es que los guatamalans tienden para ser más pequeños en estatura...

So wait. Are they Mormons or morons? Or are we the Mormons? I once got into a discussion with some Mormons about Mexican food and they claimed that that the one thing that Mexicans and Guatemalans have in common is that you won't find any in Utah.

Don't call Mesh boy. I'm gonna start an organization, JATOOM "Josiah's Against the Objectification of Mesh", of which there are 3 members, Me, Josiah Knutson (retired), and King Josiah (expired). One shouldn't mistake JATOOM with the other group, JATOOM (Latter Day Saints) which is the Josiah's Against the Objectification of Mormons (Latter Day Saints)

My wife and I went there when we were in Chattanooga. It was nice to have some real tacos after a week in the South.

I once used two crusading Mormons to help me move a couch into my apartment, so I guess as far as physical labor goes, that makes Mormons the hispanics of the religious community. Now if I could have gotten them to make me a nice burrito lunch, I think the case for the Taco Rico owners being Mormons would really have some evidence.

jeez you guys

Posted by: Paul B at September 9, 2004 08:01 PM

It's a shame that Guatemalans are forced to go door-to-door to ask people if they'd like some tacos.
