spaghetti

thanks everyone for your thoughts on titling my photographs. for now i'll stick with descriptions for the most part and get more creative when it hits me. as i mentioned before, its my week to cook at the house, which typically means at least one night of black beans and rice (or blackbeanshmoo as it is so affectionately called) and possibly a heaping pot of spaghetti - as seen here. i haven't done too many macro (close-up) shots with my D70 mostly because i don't have a good lens for it. this one came out okay but certainly doesn't have the detail a good macro lens would have given it.

...

peacenik cat stevens, or Yusuf Islam as he calls himself, got an entire plane re-routed after his name showed up on a no-fly list. and now he's going to be deported. wow.

Yeah Andy, the pic makes me kinda sick. But most stuff makes me sick, now that I'm in the family way. And might I say again, Aaron mesh is a dern funny guy.

It's black-beans-n-rice tonight at my house. My fiance doesn't believe me when I say that our dinner menu will be "black beans and rice-Monday, red beans and rice-Tuesday, Left overs Wednesday, Spaghetti without meat - Thursday....you get the idea. Lots of beans and rice.

"...haven't done too many macro (close-up) shots with my D70 mostly because i don't have a good lens for it. this one came out okay but certainly doesn't have the detail a good macro lens would have given it."

I agree with you on the lens issue. I think this subject, and perhaps the tomato still life from the other day, would benefit from a little less DoF action and a little more sharpness/texture detail. I find the blurred out foregound on this one to be a little distracting. Don't let my comments bother you, though, as I think you're a very good photographer who is not afraid to experiment, be creative, and so forth.

that shot reminds me of 'indiana jones and the temple of doom,' you know the part where they lower the guy into the lava pit as part of a pagan ritual sacrifice? i think it's because of the cooked meat and the color red...

I thouhgt it was chili and looked pretty good to me

Andy, I would be interested to know what lens(es) are in your "arsenal". And what lens(es) you are looking to add.

I always admire photographers (and other arists for that matter) that make due with what they have and push it to the limits. I know of someone that just whines about not having the equipment that he wants and blames everything on it.

Like Scott, I enjoy your experimentation!

"he's being followed my an airmarshal-shawdow, airmarshal-shadow" per leno

Yes, Matt wants to know about your lenses, because he has a freakin' Canon Digital Rebel on order! Now I'm the only one in this tiny part of the blogosphere without a DSLR. I'm completely jealous. I'll just have to continue to push the PDA camera to its limits, pretending that it's all about the photographer. Maybe I'll even start a new blog in honor of Ansel Adams (Disposable Camera Blog). ;)

Jay Leno stole my joke! I'm going to hide in shame now.

Andy, when Joel and I were flying up to RI we went thru Nashville airport. There was a display along the walls of the photographs of Jack Stoddart. I thought you might be interested in them and picked up one of his cards. His website is jackstoddart.com. Some of his pix remind me of yours (bridges) and he started out in Tennessee. Have you heard of him?
