last night bob demarco and i worked til 2am cutting and laying the last pieces of tile for his new bathroom. bob put me in front of the wetsaw and shouted out measurements all night long while i tried to keep up. but it was pretty fun and now i do know how to tile a bathroom - at least generally. bob has this great way of just trusting that you can handle whatever he throws at you and it always means that you learn alot and that you feel pretty satisfied by the end of the evening.

man.. i'm really tired. sorry about not posting yesterday. i've got my hands pretty full at work these days - i'll elaborate more on that later.
in regards to the comment-discussion that's been going on about the format here. i don't have any plans to divide the blog into photos and "other stuff". i mean, that's kind of the whole point. the photos are the hook that get people to read my little musings and opinions on other issues, not to mention the community announcements. granted, i'd love more commentary on the photos but for the most part its just an exercise for me to keep my photo skillz developing.
saw maria full of grace last night and really enjoyed it. i think i was expecting it to be a more discomforting film, and not that it was exactly pleasant, but it was very tastefully done considering the subject matter and still pretty compelling on the whole. 2 thumbs up.
Posted by andy at October 5, 2004 11:34 AMHEY! i spent saturday putting down subfloor in my bathroom, last night getting all the backerboard cut and down, and tonight i'll be cutting and laying tile. or...now that you know how to do it, maybe i should let it wait a couple weeks and you can hone your skills ;)
nice pic, too. there's something very satisfying about seeing all those little tombstones perfectly lined up, no?

Posted by: Paul B at October 5, 2004 12:38 PMoh andy and bob come down here and do my kitchen backsplash!!! I'm too chicken to try!!
Anyway Andy have you ever thought about (or are you a part) of any of the art clubs in Chatt like AVA? I think you would do really well and get the feedback you want. I have finally got my butt into gear here in ATL and am enjoying every little show I can do! You'd probably sell alot! $$$$
a friend of mine worked on that film. it hasnt shown around here.
Posted by: cannon at October 5, 2004 07:04 PMjesse,
it reminds us of our tiling pursuits.
I'm jealous you saw Mary full of grace!!!
ari, your tiling pursuits in the kitchen have come to full fruition. i owe you a picture, but i'm waiting until the cabinets are in and it looks more finished. but the floor turned out great. actually, i think you can see some pics of intermediate stages in the montyfam galleries...
also, we owe you guys a phone call to see how your respective semesters are going.
