outside of my new offices in the southside neighborhoods of chattanooga there are always an incredible number of birds flying around and roosting on the power lines. at times its a little frightening how many there are and one has to be careful not to spend too much time looking up. the best part about it all is when you stop to watch the birds resting on the lines and see the way they push each other around and vie for space. i took this shot last night on the way over to hiroshi's for dinner.

version 1.0 of firefox was released today. if you're looking for a better browser than internet explorer, and you should be, be sure to download it right away.
saw i (heart) huckabees again last night and loved it the second time. if you've seen the film you really ought to read this interview with the director over at christianity today.
and for anyone interested in the savannah trip this weekend to celebrate kiko's birthday and do some camping on little tybee island, she emails these details:
I talked to Brady and he says we should get there as soon as we can on Friday and we can have a night out in Savannah. Then we'll probably crash at his place. Go grocery shopping on Saturday morning and then we'll hit the islands. We all need to bring sleeping bags and everything else we take camping. (tents aren't necessary, but it would be nice if we had a couple). He also said we all should bring shoes we don't mind getting wet. Brady also wanted to know if we have a camping stove...I don't. As for the money thing, he says all we need to have is enough to chip in on the groceries and drinks.
I've got one of those little stove tops that go on top of propane containers. I'm sure I could find a whisperlite or two to use also if we need more.
Posted by: beck at November 9, 2004 11:39 AMThe link to the interview didn't work for me. I'm guessing it was the interview that Jeffrey Overstreet did? Try here. If not, hey, now you've got another great interview with David O. Russell. :)
Posted by: Renae at November 9, 2004 12:05 PMAndy- Really appreciate this photo. I had to walk through that area a lot when I worked at the Development Resource Center.
There is something haunting and meaningful about all those birds flying around at dusk in the fall. It reminds me of that quick cut in the film 21 grams- just after Jack tells the troubled kid at the community church about how not a hair falls from our heads without Jesus knowing, then there is a silent shot of a scene like this one with thousands of birds flying through a grey skyline. I think its a sort of dark visual reference to the remainder of the verse that Jack doesn't quote: you are worth more than many sparrows.

i have everything you need over in the basement at the wardells. it should all be inside a teal green lowe alpine including a stove (don't lose it) a tent and mosquito netting. you packed my sleeping bag so i bet you know where it is better than I do. have fun, wish i was going. the beach sounds unbelieveable right now. i think i go over and under water every day but i've never actually seen it.

Posted by: bethany at November 9, 2004 03:11 PMi have too many photos of the birds outside my second floor window there on the same lines that run by your place of employment. but another one like yours reminds me of why i started in the first place. it is beautiful and terrifying simultaneously, your foto.
Posted by: cat at November 10, 2004 06:01 PMThose damn birds are making me get a carport built onto the back of my new house. Love the Southside, except for those damn birds.
