4617 Alabama Ave

You may remember a month or so ago I mentioned that I was trying to buy a house in St. Elmo. Well, after a great deal of negotiating and hurdle-jumping we finally managed to close yesterday and now I am the proud owner of 4617 Alabama Avenue. Monique Lea (of the Lea Group) was my realtor and did a stellar job sorting out all the details and juggling the ups and downs of the negotiation process. I couldn't have asked for a better representative.

So now begins a new phase in my life, that of "homeowner". I'm sure you'll see many a post about my experiences in that sphere along with questions for tips and advice on home repairs. Feel free to throw in your two cents.

First question: For anyone who's had heating and air work done on their house, who would you recommend for installation of a new system? I'll be getting estimates next week I hope.

well, in nyc you don't need to worry about that cause your heat is included in your rent. and the system is already installed, so. you know. much less stuff to worry about, really. nice place to live, nyc....

:)

true, but does NYC have D?

Posted by: JosiahQ at April 29, 2005 12:36 PM

good point jerah. in fact, you don't have to repair nyc living quarters at all. they already come in pretty good condition. they also come very, very close to pretty much anything you'd ever want to do in your life.

oh, and josiah.
that's really disgusting.

Posted by: ben at April 29, 2005 12:37 PM

I am the D. And I'll thank you not to call me really disgusting! :)

Posted by: andy at April 29, 2005 12:41 PM

ya, is there a euphemism here I'm not missing? By all means, I wanna know it, especially if its gonna bread a slew of opportunities to give Andy crap.

Posted by: JosiahQ at April 29, 2005 01:02 PM

ha! sorry guys. I though Josiah was doing the old school q & a which goes something like:

Is D there? And you go - D who? And he goes - Deez nuts!

i, obviously, was the immature one in that exhange. great house andy.

Posted by: ben at April 29, 2005 02:07 PM

Wait, this is really important. I can still sleep on your couch right? Andy? This doesn't change anything I hope.

Posted by: John Totten at April 29, 2005 03:36 PM

Well, as soon as I buy a couch you can. Unfortunately I don't own any furniture...

Posted by: andy at April 29, 2005 03:43 PM

Man, Joel and Darren were saying "deez nuts" back in the day.

I'd ask Matt Monahan your heating question or maybe Joseph Nichols? Uhhh, I'm not sure how to reach Matt at the moment as I have no email or cell # around my person...

Reliable did our St. Elmo house. I was pretty pleased with the work, though they weren't the cheapest.

Congratulations!

Nice house. My wife and I really liked a lot of the houses we saw in St. Elmo when we were up there recently.

Nice street name too...

Steven, from Alabama.

Thanks for letting me sleep on your future couch Andy. I just wish I knew somewhere in Chattanooga to get some furniture.

I'll second Scott on the Reliable recommendation. We had some less than reliable folks work on the system before - these folks were great. Very professional, reasonably prices.

We also used Reliable. We had a problem with a fuse in the first year and they came out the very next day, a Sunday, to fix it. Also, when we were dealing with them, there was a guy there who was friends with Krue Brock. We have been very happy with our set up.

We collected several quotes for our addition, which involved two new units. We found Dan. I can't remember the name of his company, but his number is 657-4931. Billy met with reliable, but wasn't particulary happy with the specifics of the equipment they suggested. I know at least 4 people that he has worked with in the last year and everybody speaks highly of him. He was also the most competitive price for the product he offered.

Welcome to the neighborhood! We are deep in the trenches of construction, so let us know if you need anything. We do most ourselves, but have run into really good folks when we run out of time.

Yep Kiko, But no little girl arriving today. Stay tuned!!

Andy, we shopped around, and the best service and price we found was from Calvin Jolly Heating & Air. His number is 820-2931, and we'd highly recommend him.
