House Update

I'm making continual, yet very slow, progress on the house. This is the study, the room that I've tackled first. I meant to take a picture before I started priming, but forgot to. The walls were a combination of flourescent pink and yellow, but now every square inch of the room has been covered in primer. It's a very satisfying feeling to step back and look at room with a coat of primer on it. I imagine getting the paint on will be even better.

The window has been repaired and will be installed soon. The HVAC is in and paid for and just in time too. We had our first real summer day yesterday and temperatures today will likely hit 90. Cranked the A/C last night and slept with the windows closed for the first time. The washer and dryer are working, the cable is hooked up, and I've purchased a new mattress. All in all I feel like things are moving along. With any luck the study and my bedroom will be painted by this weekend and I can begin settling in.

Saw Star Wars III on Saturday night. I was predictably disappointed, but also found it the best of the latest round of SW films. Its pretty dark which is nice in that it brings balance to the saccharine feel of the first two. Anakin and Padume's (sp?) dialogue is atrocious -- so bad I was squirming in my seat whenever they came on screen together. I just don't find their relationship compelling enough to merit a turn to the dark side. But Yoda was cool. And Obi Wan is pretty solid too.

Back to work...

I love those windows! And I love that lighting. No I'm serious, it makes a interesting photo. And how old is that boxfan? Older than your Covenant mattress?

i officially have house envy.

our 2nd floor was 89 degrees when we got home from church yesterday afternoon...

Yeah, I think the box fan came as part of a package deal with my Covenant mattress so that dates it back to sometime in the late 20th century (Don't tell Artie Green!). Works like a champ though. The lighting, on the other hand, is probably more mid-20th century and will be tossed as soon as I can get down to IKEA in Atlanta to get something else!

I can't wait for Ikea in Atlanta to open. It will be an awesome day!

yeah it's crazy that i look forward to ikea like an opening of an amusement park. the only one i've been to was the one in bergen, norway and it was like that. little rooms, cartoons playing on mini apartments tv's in swedish. beautiful.

I like IKEA, too, but for a historic house like yours? What about this?

Posted by: Scott at June 7, 2005 04:19 PM

Yeah, I mean some historically accurate lighting would be nice, but I don't think I can afford $300 per fixture! :) IKEA's more like $10. I'll have to find a way to make it work...

Yeah, those are kind of pricey. You could always try the architectural salvage places...and there's that place on Broad St. that refurbishes antique lighting. We were lucky with our old place in that the original pendant fixtures were still in the living room and dining room.

I hear a lot of communities have Habitat for Humanity stores which function both salvage old and excess new supplies. You might try that.
