End of an Era

If you live in or near the St. Elmo area, you've probably heard some of the controversy regarding the old Zahnd's building. For years people have been trying to convince the woman who owned it to sell it so that it could be converted into something useful. As it was, it's been sitting empty as long as I can remember. For the most part it's functioned as a glorified billboard for Ruby Falls and Rock City. Sometime in May the city checked it out because they were concerned about about it's structural integrity. They discovered that the years of neglect had left it in pretty pitiful condition and they moved quickly to have it condemned and torn down in order to keep it from collapsing on anyone. Friday afternoon Josiah and I drove by this sad scene on the way back from lunch. Rumor has it it will be replaced shortly by a parking lot.
