Sufjan Stevens was on All Things Considered this evening during a segment on a small town in Arkansas. I can only presume the song will be on a future state-titled album, Arkansas, part of the 50 States Project.
Hear the segment: Sufjan Stevens on NPR and the song: The Lord God Bird.
Thanks for posting this- I heard a bit of it but couldn't listen. You're a lifesaver. (Not like the candy, more like the real thing)
Posted by: mark at July 8, 2005 01:35 PMThanks for posting this. Both items, the NPR piece and the song, are two of the most beautiful things I have heard in a long time. I keep listening to them both over and over.
Posted by: mrscrumley at July 12, 2005 07:57 AMA million thanks for recording this in its entirety. I posted the song mp3 when the segment aired but the song just isn't the same without the dialogue from the people of the town. Sufjan consistently amazes me. I've got his 3 volume Christmas album posted on my site it you want to stop by as well as a lot of Sufjan info that's come up the last few days. Thanks again.

Posted by: Dword at July 12, 2005 06:06 PMwow. sufjan never ceases to amaze me. this is glorious and i thank you. thank you thank you.
Posted by: Guava at July 16, 2005 11:51 PMSo glad you posted this. I love the song. And the added interviews made me almost homesick. Having been raised in Northwest Arkansas, I found the interviews with the citizens of Brinkley very interesting and very typical of small town life in Arkansas. Prairie Grove, my hometown, is around the same size. Our tourism draw is our Civil War battlefield park and annual "Clothesline Fair."
Posted by: Crystal at July 23, 2005 04:24 PMHiya Andy--this is Mary in Newcastle, England. I haven't talked to you in ages but have been faithfully reading your blog for a long time. Thanks so much for these Sufjan clips--amazing. Do you remember when there was a goodbye party for me at Missy and Heather's the first time I left for the UK and a band of my friends from McKay's played there? One of the guys, John Ringhofer, is one of Sufjan's touring band members (the Michigan Militia or now the Illinoise-makers). His own project is Half-handed cloud--check it out. Good to see another Chattanoogan making great music. bye!
