mondays

ugh. mondays. always hard for me to get going... overslept this morning which means i end up working late. but then, i don't suppose i can complain about having the most flexible work schedule i know of. hmm... well, that may not be quite accurate considering that half of my roommates work less than i do. anyhow, struggled through most of the morning today.

spent some time trying to connect a couple of friends both studying in aix-on-provence. it's strange to me that katie mesh and jeff baus, both americans, both studying at the same university in a tiny city in southern france, both intellectuals, have yet to bump into each other. well, perhaps now they will finally meet.

i've been thinking of buying a house here in chattanooga, and had an interesting development in those regards today. turns out, one of my roommates, isaac, is also thinking of buying, and since neither of us wish to give up living together it looks like there may be a bit of friendly competition to see who can find the coolest house first. thats so bizarre. a few that he showed me today: his dreamhouse, and a few others that might be possibilities.

shout out

I suppose I ought to thank my good friend Josiah (who apparently just killed his fiance's dog) for helping me get this thing setup. Although, I'm still not convinced of the need for a weblog in my life. As it is, I feel like I have enough trouble keeping up with my friends in the "real world" much less all the friends I try to keep in touch with via email. In a way, I have to wonder if this whole weblog phenomenon isn't something of a cop-out when it comes to having real relationships with people. That is, why would I express myself to those around me when I have all these wonderful blogbuddies that are happy to read and comment on my ruminations.

Seems this might make for reentry problems. (See Walker Percy's Lost in the Cosmos, ch. 14 "The Orbiting Self: Reentry Problems of the Transcending Self, or Why it is that Artists and Writers, some Technologists, and indeed Most People have so much Trouble Living in the Ordinary World" and/or read this article for an explanation of this term).
