finally got up a reasonable hour today. the last couple of days i've hit the alarm clock and gone back to sleep til nearly noon, which i hate doing when i'm on vacation. there's so much to do and see in this city, and time to spend with family it seems such a waste to spend more than the minimum necessary hours in bed.
coffee, breakfast, reorientation with my present location, and hit the streets with momma montgomery. there a handful, a handful?, sorry, a plethora of photographic exhibits in this down, which i began to track down this morning. visited the new england school of photography and viewed the 2003 graduate student exhibitions. some of them were good, but i have to admit i was a little disappointed. i would think with such good facilities, and teachers that the work would have blown me away. but it really didn't seem that much better than alot of what came out of the school that i studied at, for about 1% of the cost. oh, well, more exhibits to come.
oh, other highlights thus far. sunday afternoon we caught a juventus vs. barcelona friendly soccer match at the new england patriots stadium, in foxboro, ma. great game with a tied score and shootouts. its exciting to see this nation getting more excited about such a great sport.
ok then, i'm off... more soon.
okay. so here's the quick recap. i suppose my last blog had something to do with the wedding in west virginia. from there i went to annapolis, maryland for a day to visit an old friend from school, dan polk. then on to new york city for a week. part way thru the week, my roommate brent jackson met up with me and we spent most of our days kicking around the city, and i spent a great deal of time working on the photos for the finster show which was at the end of the week. it was great to see many old friends up there too - stacey hannah, matt and jerah kirby, leah morrison, ben thomas, lou wessel to name a few - and to make some new friends too. on sunday afternoon we left for philadelphia, where we spent some timw time with becki luedde, em clutcher, and the livingstons and jones families. monday back to annapolis so that brent could look at st. john's college, and spent some more time with dan polk, and very strangely with dr. graham, of covenant-college-chapel-god-voiceover fame. then back home on monday night. wednesday night we drove up to detroit for john sweet and angela youell's wedding. well, kinda. actually, i flew out to seattle on thursday for ken and emily montgomery's wedding and then flew back to detroit for the sweet's wedding. both were blessed occasions. many old friends -- good times, food, wine, and beer were had by all. drove home to chattanooga on sunday, by way of the bizarre lakeside community in lakeside, ohio.
home for a week. worked my butt off between coptix and trying to get moved into our new house up on lookout mountain which isaac wardell recently bought. got everything moved in on friday morning, tied up some loose ends at work, or perhaps unraveled them, and then caught a flight to gainesville, florida on friday evening for yet another wedding. shot photos on saturday at that wedding, and caught a flight to boston, mass on saturday evening. and that's where i am now, trying to slow down, and catch up on sleep, and figure out what time zone my body thinks its in.
i keep having these strange experiences where i forget what city i'm in. driving past a casino in seattle i caught myself thinking, "i didn't realize gambling was legal in new york... oh wait.." and i'm finding, even with my penchant for the nomadic lifestyle that i'm aching to be home in good old chattanooga.
but beantown awaits...
alright, alright... i'm finally going to blog. i apologize for the long drought in blog entries from me lately, but i've been traveling almost non-stop for the past month, with little or no internet access. when i have been in chattanooga i've been so harried with trying to catch up with work and friends that i've little time to recount my adventures here on loapher. i will do my best to give a quick update here and then perhaps some new experiences from this week in beantown. i would have many pictures to share except that my digital camera 'hiccuped' on the way to detroit one day and deleted all 150+ images that i had collected. bluh.
"Tokelau is a small island, consisting of three atolls, some 500 miles from Western Samoa and is inhabited by less then 1500 people," and evidently they're giving away domains. get yours free at dot.tk. i got loapher.tk. i found all this out because of ourwedding.tk, which some of you may be familiar with.
well, i'm off for the week to new york, by way of huntington, wv for jarrod taylor's wedding. i'll be in new york from sunday to sunday, taking part in the 'wheel of fire' howard finster tribute festival. you can read about it here and here. things are slowly coming together, although its been a bumpy and somewhat stressful ride. there's still quite a bit to be done before my photos are ready to display, but i'm excited nevertheless -- my first real photography show.
