mondays with brian

i believe i've mentioned it before, but brian whitacre and i try to meet down at greyfriar's every monday morning. it's a time to catch up, read some psalms, and usually spend some time praying, and it's always very rejuvenating. he's an old friend, through thick times and thin and today i'm sharing him with you on the blog.

...

sometimes scripture cracks me up. last night i was reading proverbs 27 and came across this:

Whoever blesses his neighbor with a loud voice,
rising early in the morning,
will be counted as cursing.

sounds like solomon had a friend who was a "morning person," and he is, of course, a man of great wisdom...

blue skies and blue hair

we've been working on some of the identity stuff for the new coptix website, which is why you're seeing so many images like this. this is jennie, one of my coworkers here. the one who drives the pimped out honda civic, goes to john kerry rallies, and, along with alice, generally makes fun of her more conservative coworkers.

...

once again, josiah has been pushing the limits of funny, bordering on irritating, though i have to admit that what he did this week was one of the funniest things i've heard of in a long time. most of you have probably received one of those scam emails at one time or another in which a wealthy foreigner who needs help moving millions of dollars from his homeland promises a hefty percentage of this fortune as a reward for assisting him (like this). hopefully none of you have ever fallen for it. well, josiah gets one last week, and immediately replies to the email and gives the guy my cell phone number (something he enjoys doing...). a couple hours later i get a random phone call from some middle-eastern sounding guy who i can hardly understand telling me that he wants to talk about "the proposal." i keep telling him i have no idea what he's talking about until he finally hangs up, and i'm completely confused... until later that afternoon when josiah asks if i've gotten any strange phone calls. funny? yes. irritating? kind of, but only because it happened to me, and when i stop and think about it, it's actually really funny.

unix in a bottle

lang puts in some late hours with a little help from ye olde bottle of red stripe...

...

random reflection on my car: the passat's in the shop again, the power steering went out. this means finding rides everywhere, which is no fun, but at least i work with one of my roommates. the passat is getting old. she's starting to show signs of age even though she's got a fairly new engine. 160K miles, hard miles i might add. i'd love to get another 100K out of her, but some days i have my doubts. thankfully i do have the best VW mechanics in the nation, right here in chattanooga.

as far as rethinking the site goes (people have been asking), i hate not to do something well, and if i can't do this thing daily, then maybe i need to find another way of doing it. or perhaps i just need to take a break - at times (not often mind you) it feels more like a burden than a pleassure and that's something i really want to avoid. more thoughts on that later...

reflecting on coptix

the natives are restless... my apologies once again for the lack of posting. i'm just not shooting much these days and i've grown tired of posting old images. i've been rethinking the site a bit and i may take a sabbatical for a while. for the time being, i should probably at least remove the word "daily" from my blog title. we'll see...

for now, here's a shot of some of the changes going on at the coptix offices. we recently got the new logo put on the front door and window which finally makes us official i suppose. well, at least people will know what they're wandering into now when they walk in off the street. which they do, by the way. it's bizarre sometimes how people just pop in and ask for directions or help with one thing or another. last week i helped a guy move some big pieces of wood in the warehouse next door, and the week before that some of the coptix guys helped move someone in a wheelchair off of a st.elmo porch. jacks of all trades - that's us i guess!

may be going to see wit tonight up at covenant. a couple of friends from cornerstone are performing in it.

once again, benanna

another shot of ben and anna in the kirby's apartment up in new york. i could probably devote an entire week to this pair - wait, i probably already have. i also need to start taking some new pictures as i'm running out of good NYC ones.

...

coptix is busy, but i'm enjoying being back (as are all my old clients). more of an update on all that later.

anyone seen google maps yet? ben weaver recently said, "it's everything i've ever wanted in a map application," and he's right.

self portrait

been a while since i've done one of these. took this on saturday in the setting sun. i've been meaning to get a pair of prescription sunglasses -- in the meantime i've been wearing these solar shields that i snagged from my mom's car when i was last home. at first they seemed a little clunky and grandpa-ish, but i've grown to really like them... perhaps i won't even replace them.

oh yeah, and that's my first attempt at a beard, not dirt on my face...

mojo in the rental

this is from my trip down to monroe, georgia on wednesday. josiah and i got a rental from the local thrifty and hit the road. on the way back we shuffled through his iPod and rocked out on everything from enigma to kanye to the cranberries. a real trip down memory lane. (ben harper, sorry we missed you this time. it was a quick trip down and back. if we have to stay the night next time, perhaps we can crash with you?)

rooftop dancing

more rooftop dancing from new year's eve in new york, williamsburg to be exact. i'm not even sure who this is actually - isaac maybe? and anna? i took a bunch of pictures that night just holding the camera up above my head and managed to chop off alot of heads.

...

day number three back at the office and i'm already headed out for the day on a business trip. 3 hours to monroe, georgia -- so i'm off...

chattanooga crew

i know i said something earlier about having a favorite picture from the holidays, but without a doubt this is the best from the NYC trip. someone had the genius idea to snap a photo of all the chattanooga (past or present) folks up on the roof of that warehouse on new years eve. this is only moments after the clock struck 12...

...

for those of you who haven't heard, either directly from me or indirectly through someone else, i've returned to coptix. i won't go into details here other than to say that i'm glad to be back and i'm looking forward to digging back in here at the 'tix.
